The National Development Council's mission is to increase the flow of capital to distressed urban and rural communities for investment, jobs and community development. At its core, NDC is a mission-driven advocate, serving to enhance the lives of low and moderate-income people living in underserved communities.
A small group of volunteers, inspired by the anti-poverty movements of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., set out to sustain the legacy and dream inspired by two of America's most important thinkers. In 1969, the vision of an organized effort to promote equity and community revitalization was conceived, and from that vision NDC was born.
Since then, NDC has evolved into one of the most progressive and innovative community and economic development organizations in the U.S. From our seminal role in the earliest days of the community development movement, we have grown into one of the most comprehensive suppliers of financing, development expertise and development assistance for community revitalization efforts throughout the nation. We have worked in partnership with local and state governments and non-profit organizations in every one of the 50 states and Puerto Rico to help build communities and economies, and ultimately, improve people's lives.
