Development Finance Programs
As the oldest national non-profit economic and community development organization, we make it our business to not only know what resources are available for job creation, affordable housing and community development in general, but to know the most effective ways to secure them and to use them. Many of the financial tools that are used today were shaped and refined by NDC as we worked with successive Federal administrations to increase the effectiveness of these resources: the HUD 108 program, the Community Development Block Grant Float, SBA’s 504 loan program. But those are only a few of the funding and financial resources that we help bring to the programs and projects in our client communities.
The Commons
An outdoor activity paradise, Durango, Colorado, is an increasingly sought-after tourist destination and retirement locale. The service and retail sectors are the cornerstone of the local economy and employment pool. With average local wages 32% lower than the statewide average and a median home price of $357,000, Durango’s 15,000 permanent residents face a tough economic climate.
HUD Section 108 Loan Fund
Portland, Oregon, combines the excitement and energy of an urban center with the easygoing charm of a small town. A decade ago, however, sections of Portland's urban core were suffering from disinvestment, vacancy and crime.
Armor Dynamics
“Necessity is the Mother of Invention.” Armor Dynamics, Inc. located in Kingston, New York, is living proof of that popular axiom. The formation of this small but emerging research and manufacturing company was the collective idea of a group of entrepreneurs who identified a need for technologically advanced and affordable armor products that could be used by the police departments, the military and homeland security, and set out to engineer and manufacture a solution.
