Real Estate Recycling and Reuse

A vacant building is often a sign of economic distress. To NDC more often it can represent an opportunit.  An obsolete or surplus building can be recycled, restoring jobs and economic activity to what might otherwise be a wasting, neglected resource, or worse – infecting a neighborhood with blight and disinvestment. Many communities have this kind of property, frequently the result of corporate downsizing or moves to other locations.

NDC has a long history of helping communities recycle this kind of real estate. We are known in the private sector for our expertise in applying tax benefits provided by Congress to acquire and re-convey or redevelop those facilities so that they are once again productive elements in a local economy.

As community developers, we also bring an understanding of the complicated processes involved in redeveloping older sites, including those with significant environmental impairment. We have acquired and recycled real estate with values ranging from $250,000 to more than $20,000,000 – factories, warehouses, shopping centers, breweries, shipyards, department stores, banks, office buildings, and textile mills – even an old power plant.
